THE SHORT ANSWER
Data centers in Indiana fall into two groups. Colocation centers on Henry Street in downtown Indianapolis, the city’s carrier hotel district, where DataBank runs IND1 at 731 West Henry Street, a carrier hotel with 20 carriers on site, and IND2 nearby at 650 West Henry Street, and where Netrality runs the Indy Telecom Center, an 11-building campus. Indianapolis has about 44 data centers from 19 providers. Around it, Indiana has drawn some of the largest hyperscale projects in the country: Amazon’s $11 billion campus near New Carlisle, Meta’s $10 billion campus in Lebanon’s LEAP district and its $800 million site in Jeffersonville, and Google’s $2 billion facility in Fort Wayne. A 2019 state law exempts qualified data center equipment from sales tax.

Searches for Indianapolis colocation and colocation in Indiana come mostly from Midwest enterprises in healthcare, manufacturing, logistics and life sciences leaving in-house server rooms, networks that need Henry Street, and companies placing a central recovery site. This page covers Henry Street and DataBank, the hyperscale projects, Indiana’s tax rules and how to get space at the right rate. If another market fits your requirement better, we will say so.

Henry Street: Indianapolis’s Carrier Hotel District

Indianapolis’s network core is a few blocks of West Henry Street downtown. DataBank Indianapolis runs IND1 at 731 West Henry Street, a carrier hotel with 16,950 square feet, 2.1 MW of critical IT load, N+1 power and 20 carriers on site, and IND2 at 650 West Henry Street, connected to IND1 by DataBank’s own fiber ring. Indiana’s Hyperscale Projects

New Carlisle data center (Amazon)

Amazon Web Services’ campus near New Carlisle in St. Joseph County, announced at about $11 billion, is the largest capital investment in Indiana’s history, making it the largest data center project Indiana has seen. Known as Project Rainier, it began operating in October 2025, and the county approved a 10-year, 50% real property tax abatement for it. Amazon has committed about $26 billion to data centers in Indiana overall.

Lebanon and Jeffersonville data centers (Meta)

Meta broke ground on a $10 billion campus in Lebanon, in the LEAP Research and Innovation District northwest of Indianapolis, on February 11, 2026, planned at more than 1 gigawatt. Meta is also building an $800 million data center in Jeffersonville in southern Indiana.

Fort Wayne data center (Google)

Google’s $2 billion Fort Wayne data center received a 35-year state sales tax exemption from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Vantage has also planned large campuses near Pittsboro, west of Indianapolis.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR COLOCATION BUYERS
These campuses are each built for one company and do not add space you can lease, but they compete for power and construction crews across the state, and some proposals have met local opposition. For a buyer, the near-term option is existing capacity in Indianapolis. Developers and investors weighing an Indiana site can see powered land and data center consulting.

Indiana Data Center Tax Rules

Current rule
Sales tax exemptionA 2019 law exempts qualified data center equipment from state sales and use tax, the way Indiana exempts manufacturing equipment; the exemption also covers electricity used by that equipment, excluding administrative use
TermsSet by the state for each qualifying project; Google’s Fort Wayne exemption runs 35 years on an initial $800 million of eligible capital
Local abatementsCounties negotiate property tax abatements, such as St. Joseph County’s 10-year, 50% abatement for Amazon’s New Carlisle campus

What matters for a colocation tenant: the exemption goes to qualifying data center projects, which can lower an operator’s costs; it does not automatically cover equipment a tenant buys for its own cabinets. Ask the operator what applies before pricing hardware. See data center cost.

Indianapolis Colocation Pricing

In Indianapolis, the main pricing question is whether you need to be on Henry Street: a cabinet in IND1 or IND2 gives direct access to the city’s networks, while enterprise sites across the metro trade some of that access for cost. Power per cabinet, term and cross-connects decide the rest. Providers do not publish list prices. Compare what you are offered with the ranges on our colocation pricing guide, and for a megawatt or more see wholesale colocation and the terms that matter in a data center lease.
