THE SHORT ANSWER
Equinix data centers number about 280 in 77 markets worldwide, which makes Equinix the largest data center company by footprint. Its buildings are called IBX data centers and coded by metro and number: DC for the Ashburn campus in Northern Virginia, SV for Silicon Valley, NY for New York and New Jersey, CH for Chicago, DA for Dallas and MI for Miami. What sets Equinix apart is interconnection: networks, clouds and companies meet in its buildings and connect with a cross-connect or through Equinix Fabric. Equinix is headquartered in Redwood City, California, trades on the Nasdaq as EQIX, and retired its Equinix Metal bare metal service on June 30, 2026.

Searches for Equinix data center locations usually come from one of three buyers: an enterprise or network that needs Equinix colocation in a specific building, a company comparing Equinix with other operators before it signs, or a team that relied on Equinix Metal and needs a new home. This page covers the US campuses and their IBX codes, Fabric and xScale, who runs the company, what Equinix colocation costs and how to get space at the right rate. If another provider fits your requirement better, we will say so.

Equinix SV3 is at 1735 Lundy Avenue in San Jose and SV2 at 1350 Duane Avenue in Santa Clara. The campus is home to Equinix’s San Jose exchange and the historic Palo Alto Internet Exchange, which Equinix gained when it bought Switch and Data in 2010. Equinix Fabric, xScale and the End of Equinix Metal

Equinix Fabric

Equinix's software-defined interconnection: private, on-demand connections from your equipment to clouds, networks and other companies, including AWS Direct Connect and Azure ExpressRoute, without new physical cross-connects for each one.

xScale

Equinix's hyperscale data centers for cloud and AI companies needing tens of megawatts, built through joint ventures, including a $15 billion venture announced in 2024 for new US xScale campuses.

Equinix Metal, retired

Equinix's bare metal service, formerly Packet, stopped selling new capacity and was shut down on June 30, 2026. See bare metal servers and Equinix Metal alternatives.

For AI deployments, the question at Equinix is the same as anywhere: which building can deliver your rack density and cooling on your date. See AI and GPU colocation, direct to chip cooling, or GPU rental if renting capacity makes more sense than owning it.

Equinix Pricing

Equinix does not publish list prices. A quote depends on the building, the power per cabinet, the number of cabinets or the size of the cage, the term, and above all the cross-connects and Fabric ports you need, which can rival the space itself in an interconnection-heavy building. Space in the most connected buildings, like DC2 or NY4, usually costs more per kilowatt than suburban halls in the same market. Compare any Equinix quote with the ranges on our colocation pricing guide, see data center connectivity for cross-connect costs, and for a megawatt or more, wholesale colocation and the terms that matter in a data center lease.
